All classes read books about Veterans Day this week. They also used Pebble Go to find information about this holiday.

This week we had the Scholastic Book Fair during library time! I want to thank everyone who helped support our library by purchasing items. We will be able to have author, Judy Young, come in March to talk to the students about being an author.
Our Grandparent Tea was a HUGE success! A special thanks to all of my helpers and the grandparents who attended. I couldn't have done it without you. 4th Grade
We are continuing our author study of Chris Van Allsburg by reading The Wretched Stone. We discussed what we thought the stone represented in our daily lives. 3rd Grade They had play practice during library this week. 2nd Grade We read the Show-Me Nominee, I Am Trying to Love Spiders. Then we shared things that we like about spiders ( for me NOTHING) and things we didn't like about spiders. It was a really fun book! 1st Grade We also read a Show-Me Nominee, The Day the Crayons Came Home. We then each chose a crayon and decided what it had been used to color and what it would say if it could talk. Kindergarten We read the book, The Ugly Pumpkin then watched a video of the book. They got to color a picture of a pumpkin and a jack-o-lantern when they finished checking out. We have introduced 6 centers so far! 4th Grade
We read the Chris Van Allsburg book, Just a Dream. We did a Timed Pair Share of how the main character, Walter, changed from the beginning of the book to the end. 3rd Grade We read the book, One Plastic Bag. Then we discussed ways we could reduce waste and create something new at the same time. We watched a video on youtube about women in Gambia gathering old plastic bags that were littering their village and turning them into purses that they could sell. 2nd Grade We read the Show-Me Nominee, Winnie: The True Story of the bear Who Inspired Winnie-the-Pooh then read Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Pot. Next, we did a Timed Pair Share about which story we liked better and why. 1st Grade We read the Show-Me-Nominee, Trombone Shorty. We then used plastic spoons, plastic eggs, beans and rice to make our own macaras! Kindergarten We read the book, Creepy Carrots then reviewed the parts of a book. We then used our coding mice, Colby and Jack to find different parts of the book. Lastly, we decorated our own Creepy Carrots! 4th Grade We started an author study of Chris Van Allsburg. This week we read Jumanji and shared our favorite parts with Round Robin. 3rd Grade We read Ketzle, the Cat Who Composed. We then learned how to use the free app Sketch a Song on the ipads and created our own music compositions. We listened to everyone's songs when we finished! 2nd Grade We read another one of our Show-Me Nominees, Marilyn's Monster. Then we used foam shapes and googly eyes to create our own monsters! We shared our monster, their name and where we found them with Round Robin. 1st Grade We read a Show-Me Nominee, If you Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, DON'T. They we shared what animal we would like to bring to school with Round Robin. Kindergarten We read Even Monsters Need Haircuts. Then we created our own monsters with crazy hair. We shared our monsters with Round Robin. 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grade We watched a quick video about the Cubelet Robots and learned how they work then practiced making robots that would do lots of different things. 1st Grade We read another one of our Show-Me Nominees, I Am Trying to Love Spiders. We discussed the part of the book and then built spiders out of Legos. Their challenge was to build a spider with what they were given. Kindergarten We read A Book is Just Like You and learned about the parts of a book. We then watched a short interactive video about parts of a book. We also go introduced to Jack, our Code and Go Mouse. We will begin using him in a few weeks. 3rd and 4th Grade We learned how to use the coding site, Scratch. Each student who wanted to practice, could use the Chrome Books at center time. 2nd Grade We learned how all of the OSMO apps worked. We then played Timed Pair Share to tell our partner what our favorite app was and why. They could choose to work on the OSMO for their center. 1st Grade We read our first Show-Me Nominee, Mother Bruce. We discussed what animals would need in their habitat, then each group chose an animal and built a habitat using various building materials we have in the library. Kindergarten We read Mr. Wiggle's Book then reviewed how to take care of our library books at home. We learned the song, The Booky Looky, and practiced several times. When then played Musical Shelves again, but his time when they found a book they wanted, they got to check it out. 3rd and 4th Grade We learned how to use the Ozobots this week. We watched a tutorial online and then got to practice coding with a partner. 2nd Grade We learned how to use the Scratch coding website on our Chrome books. Each student who wanted to choose this as their center got to practice coding. 1st Grade We read The Day the Crayons Quit. Then each student shared their favorite color with a partner using Timed Pair Share. They then chose that color and drew a picture. Kindergarten We read Dot by Patricia Intriago. Then each student drew a picture of something they would like to try. After that we played Musical Shelves to see what kinds of books we have in the library. 4th Grade
The Mark Twain Nominees were introduced to the students. I explained that they needed to read 4 or more to be able to vote in the spring. We watched book trailers made by other students for each of the books. I had two great helpers who taught first graders how to do self check out! 3rd Grade We read the ebook, Manners with a Library Book, to revisit how to take care of our books at home. 2nd Grade We read Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians and reviewed how to choose just right books. 1st Grade We watched Scaredy Squirrel Goes to the Library to review how to check out and take care of our books. We then finished our "I Know How to Take Care of a Book" booklet and checked out a book using self checkout. We had a couple of 4th graders come in and show us how. Kindergarten We read the book, Pop's Bridge and watched a video of London Bridge. Then each student made a bridge across the "water" with a partner. We are continuing to work on our Bookworm School packets. Fourth Grade
We read The Days of Summer by Eve Bunting. Library Centers were introduced and they checked out books and worked in centers. Second Grade We read A Book for Chester and learned about different parts of the library. Library Centers were introduced and they checked out books and worked in centers. First Grade We read What Happened to Marion's Book and discussed proper book care. We worked on our "I Know How to Take Care Of a Book" packets. We will begin check out next week. Kindergarten We read Library Lion and reviewed our library rules. We learned what an author and illustrator do by watching a video. W also learned the Hi Ho LIbrario song. Ask your student to sing it for you. Third Grade We read What Marion Taught Willis and learned about he nonfiction section of the library. We did a RoundRobin in our teams to review what we learned from the book. Library Centers were introduced and they checked out books and worked in centers. |
